What is the Size Reducer?

The Size Reducer is a specialized tool that compresses images and documents to a specific target file size. It’s essential for preparing documents for online forms, government portals, and job applications that have strict file size limits (e.g., “max 100 KB”).

Access it via File > Reduce Image Size or press Ctrl+Shift+C. You can also find it as a panel button in the Photo and Document tabs.

How It Works

The Size Reducer uses a smart binary-search strategy to hit your target size:

  1. JPEG quality reduction — First, it systematically reduces the JPEG quality setting, testing each level until the file is under the target size.
  2. Progressive downscale — If reducing quality alone isn’t enough, it scales the image dimensions down while preserving the aspect ratio, continuing the binary search.

This ensures the highest possible quality at your target size.

Using the Size Reducer

1

Open an image or document

Have your photo or document open in the Photo or Document tab, or press Ctrl+Shift+C from anywhere.

2

Choose a target template

Select from built-in templates organized by category:

  • Photos: PAN, Passport, Aadhaar, Government Form
  • Signatures: PAN, Government
  • Documents: PAN, Aadhaar, Admission Form, Job Application, Government

Each template has a pre-configured target file size appropriate for that use case.

3

Or set a custom target

If none of the templates match, enter your own target size in KB or MB.

4

Preview and apply

The Size Reducer shows a live preview of the compressed result along with a progress bar. Review the quality and click Apply.

💡

Tip: For documents with text, start with a higher quality setting. Text artifacts become more noticeable at very low JPEG quality levels.

Common Use Cases

The Size Reducer’s built-in templates cover the most common requirements. Select the appropriate template and the tool handles the rest.

Web Uploads

Many websites have strict upload limits. Use the Size Reducer to ensure your documents are accepted on the first try.
